Sow their fields with salt.

For what it’s worth, I’m ambivalent about prosecuting the torture head honchos. On one hand, it would be a long, bitter fight. I’m unsure if that’s where energy should be spent…

On the other, it was wrong. There is no other description for it. And I want everyone to know it was wrong. I want the lawyers who gave cover to be held responsible and the fools using TV show reasoning held responsible. I want the Bush administration legally tainted the same way the Reagan and Nixon administrations became legally tainted. No one who worked with them should be able to hold government policy positions again, and I’d like something more tangible than working for a failed administration.

In a similar vein, I wonder what might have happened if Ford hadn’t pardoned Nixon. Would that have prevented the rise of some of the big names in politics who have been so frustrating over the past 30 years? Then again, Iran-Contra didn’t seem to really stick in people’s minds, so I don’t know.

  1. Amen… I think a sufficient period of time in stocks — while on network TV — might be the appropriate punishment.
